The Annual Conference Experience

Four days of connected study and practice

The Annual Jiu Jitsu Conference brings practitioners together for four days of concentrated study, technical refinement, live practice, and shared learning. Professor Alan Baker organizes the experience around mechanical understanding, progressive skill development, and the ability to apply principles under changing conditions.

We will use a rolling schedule of drills, open rolling sessions, and focused rounds designed to push your limits. A round timer will run continuously. You are free to step off the mat whenever you need a break, but the training environment continues. Those who want to test themselves can remain on the mat and train hard across the conference.

This is an opportunity to study the art as a connected system, refine the details that make techniques work, and leave with a clearer path for continued development.

Progressive Training Flow

Train the complete cycle

01

Bridge the gap

Close distance safely and effectively against an opponent who may be striking or maintaining range.

02

Enter and take down

Use entries and takedowns that create a dominant position without unnecessary exposure to risk.

03

Control and transition

Establish and maintain side control, mount, and back control under pressure. Move fluidly between positions.

04

Submit with efficiency

Explore submission opportunities through mechanical efficiency, control, timing, and adaptation for different environments, including self defense situations.

05

Escape and recover

Escape bad positions, regain control, and work back to your feet when necessary. Understand how every piece connects from first engagement to fight conclusion.

Instruction

Overseen by Professor Alan Baker and guests

Professor Alan Baker brings a rare and well rounded perspective to grappling. He holds a fourth degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer, a Full Instructorship under Master Erik Paulson, and a second degree black belt in Judo. He also holds instructor ranks in Filipino Dumog and Silat.

This cross disciplinary background allows him to blend structure, leverage, and adaptability. Professor Baker tailors his instruction to the students on the mat and helps practitioners of different styles and experience levels develop a more complete and intelligent understanding of grappling.

Participants will leave with clearer structure, improved efficiency, and a deeper grasp of how Jiu Jitsu principles work in real situations.

The Art

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art focused on leverage, control, and technique rather than size or strength. It teaches practitioners to defend themselves through positional control, joint locks, and chokeholds. The art emphasizes ground fighting and develops physical skill and mental discipline through live practice.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was built on the principle that knowledge and leverage can overcome size and strength. Preserving that truth matters. This conference returns to the art’s foundation through efficiency, structure, and intelligent mechanics. Professor Baker’s mission is to help good people train smarter, protect themselves, and pass on authentic knowledge that strengthens the community.
