THE STORY
Throughout my three decades of overseeing academies, I have regularly gathered my staff and instructors for intensive training sessions lasting two to three days. These training events were designed to provide a focused and intense push toward improvement. Like heat tempers metal, as warriors, we understand that pushing ourselves in training refines our skills and strengthens our resolve. We would concentrate each day on one area of development: Defense, Escape, Control/neutralize, and then attack or submit. Our primary goals During these sessions were to enhance our mat skills and develop willpower, discipline, and self-control. These qualities are fundamental to our individual and unified team growth. These events acquired the nickname “Fight Lab” with our team. This training camp continues that time-honored tradition of pursuing growth and development.
What You’ll Train at the BJJ Training Camp
This camp is designed for serious practitioners who want to elevate their game through purposeful drilling, resistance-based training, and detailed instruction. You won’t be watching from the sidelines — you’ll be moving, learning, and sharpening your skills across multiple critical areas of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Pummeling & Hand Fighting
Master key control positions and transitions with focused drills on wrist, bicep, tricep, and underhook control. We’ll explore the arm drag series and how to apply these concepts from both standing and kneeling positions.
Entries Into Reaps, Sweeps, and Takedowns
Learn to use pummeling as a gateway to breaking posture and creating opportunities for reaps, sweeps, breakdowns, and effective takedowns. You’ll gain a deep understanding of torso control and counter-control principles.
Clearing Head and Neck Ties
Develop strategies for dealing with neck control in live pummeling situations. This block focuses on breaking ties, regaining dominant grips, and building control in close-quarter clinch work.
Giraffe Wrestling (Head & Shoulder Control)
Train dominant standing and grounded control using head and shoulder manipulation. This method integrates combative application, especially for close-quarters encounters with or without weapons.
Survival & Escapes from Dominant Positions
You’ll dive deep into surviving and escaping from high-pressure positions including:

Through technical instruction and repetition, you’ll develop the mechanics, timing, and strategic awareness needed to stay safe and escape under pressure.
Guard Survival, Control & Passing
We’ll work on creating confidence and stability inside the guard, then transition into high-percentage passing strategies. Expect to build both a solid guard game and effective methods for advancing position.
Attacking from the Guard, Side Control, and Mount
Refine your ability to control, submit, and transition from dominant positions. You’ll train offensive setups from the guard, apply submissions from side control, and explore the full range of attacks from mount.
Open Training & Resistance Drills
Cap off the camp with open-format partner training. Roll, drill, and refine techniques in a safe, structured environment with instructor supervision and guidance. Black Belts will be on hand to match partners and manage intensity.
