Event description

The Goal: Give responsible gun owners a clear, pressure-tested method to survive close contact, create space, and access their weapon system safely.

This is a three-hour, range-based training block built for gun owners who understand a simple truth: the fight that matters most is the one that starts too close. If you carry, your first problem is not marksmanship. Your first problem is recognizing trouble early, surviving the initial crash, protecting your head and belt line, creating space, and accessing your weapon systems when they’re actually available.

We’ll work on threat recognition and pre-assault indicators, then move into close-range and “out of position” problems that happen around vehicles and in transitional spaces. You’ll learn simple, pressure-tested shielding and positioning methods that help you stay functional under surprise contact so you can fight your way into distance and get to a tool of advantage.

We’re going to cover the skills that keep you alive before the fight ever “looks like a fight.” You’ll learn how to recognize threats before they bloom into violence by spotting pre-assault indicators, physical tells, and posting behaviors that often show up right before the first strike. We’ll then train surprise-contact protection so you can use simple, functional shielding to protect your head and keep your brain online when the bad guy closes fast, aiming to move from behind time to ahead of time.

From there, we’ll work out-of-position fighting from a seated position and against a wall, focusing on what to do when you don’t have your preferred stance, angle, or timing, and the bad guy is already in your space. You’ll learn how to clear attachments, break contact, and fight your way back into distance so you can access your weapon systems safely and intelligently. We’ll also cover protecting your belt line and your draw, including simple, practical ways to defend the holster area from grabs and attempted disarms, so you don’t donate your gun in a clinch. While we won’t be running vehicle-specific scenarios in this class, the principles you’ll learn here translate directly to the kinds of problems that often happen in and around vehicles.

Most gun owners are trained for a clean range problem, not the messy close-range fight. They’re missing a clear blueprint for what to do before they can safely access their weapon.

Areas We Will Be Working On

  • Pre-contact positioning through the study of critical distance
  • Reading physical indicators and pre-assault cues from the threat
  • How to position yourself before contact so you’re starting from advantage
  • Managing close-quarter punching and surprise contact
  • Dealing with clothing grabs and attachment fighting
  • Countering attempted grabs to your belt line or weapon system
  • Understanding force at close range and how to respond appropriately
  • Delivering ballistic, close-range counterattacks when you have no space
  • Training the material in open space first for clean reps and timing
  • Applying the same problems from a seated position
  • Applying the same problems pinned or pressured against a wall
  • Building the skill of creating distance, making space, and earning access to your weapon system of choice

Have you ever had this thought: “I carry every day, but I’ve never really trained what happens when the fight starts too close. If a guy is already on me, grabbing and hitting, how do I handle him, create space, and safely get to my weapon without donating it?”

My goal is  you walking out with a simple, repeatable blueprint for close-range problems: you can spot the pre-assault cues early, manage surprise contact without losing your head, protect your belt line from grabs, create space under pressure, and only access your weapon system when it’s actually safe and available, not when it’s likely to get you tangled up or taken.

Aditional Study Options

If you want to get more out of this C-Tac training (or show up already speaking the same language), take a little time to study the supporting material ahead of the event. We have foundational videos, concepts, and drills inside the C-Tac platform that will give you the context for how we train and why we structure things the way we do.

This is where you can get familiar with the core C-Tac principles we’ll be applying: awareness and pre-assault recognition, managing critical distance, pressure-tested shielding, practical grappling that supports weapons access, and how we connect tactics, timing, and body mechanics into a system that’s built for real-world use. If you want to sharpen your fundamentals and step onto the mat already dialed in, start there and come in ready to train.
