The Pugilist Marksman is a unique initiative centered on the goal of fostering more capable and resilient individuals by promoting the training and principles of the warrior mindset.

Our Defensive Pistol Course draws from extensive experience in low-profile law enforcement and civilian training. The curriculum equips students, regardless of their shooting background or profession, with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively carry, conceal, and utilize a pistol. Topics cover a broad range, including mindset, use of force, firearms selection, gear, carry considerations, pistol manipulations, marksmanship fundamentals, and positional shooting

* This course is not a basic pistol course and we requires participants to be confident in their safety, shooting and physical abilities. Pistol 1 is a prerequisite to this course completed by a reputable instructor or organization. 

The BDT Close-Quarter Combatives Program focuses on effective hand-to-hand defensive techniques for situations where using concealed weapons isn’t feasible. It explores understanding predator behavior, identifying pre-attack signs, and the verbal dynamics preceding physical confrontations, emphasizing a comprehensive defensive strategy. The program highlights the importance of safeguarding “Everyday Carry (EDC)” items, especially concealed firearms, during physical engagements. It integrates firearms instruction with combatives, emphasizing weapon retention and disarming tactics in close-quarter scenarios, essential for maintaining control and gaining the upper hand in high-pressure situations. This training is born from Coach Baker’s extensive experience in martial arts and coaching various law enforcement and security professionals.

Alan Baker & Dennis Rousseau

Alan Baker A.K.A “Dedão” or the “Big Toe” is a renowned figure in martial arts and self-defense, with over four decades of diverse experience in more than 25 martial arts forms under the worlds foremost instructors. He is the founder and chief instructor of Baker Defensive Tactics (BDT), The Civilian Tactical Association, And the Pugilist Marksman program where he imparts advanced defensive techniques, close quarter firearm skills, and edged weapon handling. He is an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, a Certified Executive Protection Agent (PPS), His expertise is widely recognized by top security professionals, law enforcement agencies, and U.S. government departments. Baker also serves as the lead Defensive Tactics Instructor at prestigious institutions such as The Executive Protection Institute, Tactical 21, Jason Redman’s Overcome & Survive and The Vehicle Dynamics Institute, contributing significantly to the field.

Dennis Rousseau is a seasoned military veteran and active duty officer with over 16 years in Federal Law Enforcement. He’s a Primary Less Lethal Instructor, skilled in various combat techniques, including de-escalation, ground tactics, and firearms. Dennis, a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do, trains under Sifu Alan Baker and Sensei Erik Paulson. He founded Force Solutions, focusing on firearms training, hand-to-hand self-defense, situational awareness, and de-escalation, integrating his extensive martial arts expertise.

  • IWB (Inside the waistband) Holsters *No Serpa or leather only holsters
  • Reliable and sturdy EDC belt
  • Reliable EDC Pistol
  • At least 1 magazine holder for spare magazine
  • 3 magazines
  • 300 rounds of ammunition (If you bring more you can shoot more)
  • Quality Ear & Eye Protection 
  • Appropriate Clothing for Concealment and Weather
  • Knee and Elbow pads optional
  • Bring snacks and lunch so we can start back on time
  • Please properly hydrate the evening before and bring plenty of water, we will be moving

Physical Requirements

Participation in this program requires a fundamental level of physical fitness, including the capacity to kneel on one knee and return to a standing position. However, we understand that injuries and physical limitations can occur. They won’t entirely prevent you from training with us if you have any such concerns. We are committed to modifying and adapting exercises to suit your needs and conditions. Our primary goal is to provide you with a high-quality educational experience, ensuring all participants gain valuable skills and knowledge, regardless of physical constraints.

This course represents a significant time and financial commitment for both participants and organizers. It has a strict refund policy due to high demand and limited spots. Cancellations made over 30 days before the class are fully refundable. Between eight and thirty days prior, tuition isn’t refundable but can be applied to another program within 12 months. Cancellations within a week of the class result in forfeiture of tuition. If a class is canceled by the organizers, enrolled students will receive a full refund.
