What This Seminar Is
This is not a “here’s 40 techniques” kind of seminar. My focus is tactics and game strategy, built on mechanics, timing, and positional science. You’ll learn how to solve problems, not just memorize moves, so your jiu-jitsu holds up when the other person is strong, fast, and not cooperating.
What We’ll Cover
Exact content will be adjusted to the skill level in the room, but the training will revolve around:
- The science of position: alignment, posture, base, and pressure
- Movement that creates advantage: angles, wedges, frames, and timing
- Escapes and recoveries that keep you from getting stuck underneath
- Control and transitions that lead to dominant positions
- High-percentage attacks that come from control, not hope
- Simple tactical decision-making you can use in rolling immediately
Who This Seminar Is For
- Beginners who want a faster learning curve and fewer bad habits
- Intermediate students who want better efficiency and sharper mechanics
- Advanced students who want higher-level problem solving and detail
- Coaches who want a structured way to teach mechanics and strategy
What To Bring
- Gi and belt
- Water
- Notebook (optional)
- A readiness to train and learn
About Professor Alan Baker
Alan Baker is a globally recognized martial arts and self-defense instructor, author, and speaker. Known as the “Agent of Change,” he has trained for over four decades and has taught professionally since 1990, working with thousands of students over the past 30+ years.
Professor Baker is a 4th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Pedro Sauer, a Full Instructor under Erik Paulson, and a 2nd Degree Judo Black Belt under Master Bob Byrd. His approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is built on a broad base of study across multiple martial arts, giving him a wider lens than many single-system instructors. That depth translates into a stronger understanding of the “human machine” and how to teach positioning and movement so the art works under pressure, especially against bigger, more vigorous opponents.
In addition, Alan’s background working with law enforcement and the military, along with 18 years as a bodyguard, gives him a serious self-defense lens. This seminar will stay rooted in solid jiu-jitsu, but it will be taught with the realism and accountability that comes from real-world experience.
