Dog Boxing is centered on the concept of “Out-Of-Position” Fighting, which diverges from most traditional fighting systems that rely on specific stances or positions to execute techniques. Instead, Dog Boxing emphasizes mastering the mechanics of various positions across different environments and surfaces. Surfaces such as against a wall or car, seated in a vehicle or chair, on a table, or the hood of a car. This approach ensures that a practitioner is never caught off-guard and is always equipped to deliver powerful and effective strikes, regardless of their positioning.

Some Of The Seminar Topics

Dog Boxing 101

This seminar offers an in-depth exploration of Dog Boxing fundamentals, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of this unique fighting style. The program is structured around a series of positional body placements adapted to various environments and surfaces. Participants will learn how to effectively position themselves and maneuver in scenarios such as being cornered against a wall, seated in a chair or a car, at a table, on their knees, or on the ground.
The seminar progresses to a detailed study of body mechanics, focusing on generating destructive force in each specific situation. This includes mastering the essential movements and techniques required to exert maximum impact in various scenarios. Once these basic mechanisms are understood, the seminar delves into the “Surface Engagement Principle.” This principle is crucial for managing violent encounters in environments with harsh surfaces, enabling participants to navigate these situations successfully and continue fighting effectively.
Additionally, we will examine the concept of shielding. This technique is a versatile element in Dog Boxing, serving as both an offensive and defensive tool. Participants will learn how to use shielding in multiple ‘out-of-position’ situations, enhancing their ability to protect themselves and counterattack. Through this seminar, attendees will gain a holistic understanding of Dog Boxing, equipping them with the skills to handle diverse and challenging combat scenarios with confidence and proficiency.

Approximately 15 years ago, while conducting a training session for a government agency in Virginia, I encountered a defining moment in my martial arts career. During a simulated violent altercation with three individuals between two cars, I found myself inadvertently falling to the ground. I ended up in a position on my elbows and knees, commonly known in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu as the Quarter position or turtle position. In this vulnerable state, I faced a startling revelation: I had no offensive options available. Despite my extensive training in various martial arts systems, none had equipped me with effective offensive techniques for this predicament.
This realization was a profound eye-opener about the limitations of my knowledge and the shortcomings of the martial arts disciplines I had practiced. It became clear that these traditional systems lacked comprehensive solutions for situations like the one I found myself in. This spurred a quest for answers, leading me to delve into numerous other martial arts styles. However, it soon became evident that these styles, too, fell short in addressing such unique combat scenarios.
Recognizing the gap in existing martial arts training, I initiated what I refer to as “the Lab” with my team. We began experimenting by placing ourselves in these challenging positions and engaging in combat with each other. Through rigorous trial and error, we gradually uncovered practical solutions and developed effective training methods for these overlooked scenarios.
Over the past 15 years, this exploratory journey has culminated in the creation of a comprehensive curriculum addressing these gaps. This body of work eventually evolved into what is now known as the Dog Boxing Program. This program is a testament to our dedication to uncovering and teaching practical combat solutions for situations where traditional martial arts have historically offered limited guidance. Through Dog Boxing, I aim to empower practitioners with a more holistic and adaptable combat skill set, preparing them for a wider range of real-world defensive scenarios.
